"הַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה לָכֶם רֹאשׁ חֳדָשִׁים, רִאשׁוֹן הוּא לָכֶם לְחָדְשֵׁי הַשָּׁנָה"
"This month shall be for you the head of the months; it shall be the first of the months of the year for you." (Exodus 12:2)
Nissan marks a powerful new beginning — the gateway to freedom, to renewal, to becoming. It’s spring, and we are ready to bloom, nourished by the joy awakened last month in Adar.
Here are some ways to connect to this month energy:
Sense of This Month: Speech
In mystical Judaism, Nissan is linked to the sense of speech דיבור reminding us that words are vessels of creation. As this month is marked by Passover (Pesach), telling the story of the Exodus, notice how the word Pesach can be read as peh-sach, “the mouth speaks,” reminding us of the power of words to unite, free, remember. Lashon HaRa—speaking about others, even if true, positive or negative—is seen as harmful speech in Jewish tradition, because words carry energy and ripple beyond our understanding. Interestingly, the structure of the throat/mouth and the reproductive system mirror one another—both are gateways through which life is formed and expressed. Masaru Emoto’s experiments on water and rice showed that kind words formed beautiful crystals, while negative words led to distortion. Our words truly shape our world.
Practice: Be mindful of the words you speak—especially those that reinforce limiting beliefs like “I can’t” or “my problem is.”
Refrain from Lashon HaRa—speaking negatively about others, even if it seems harmless or well-intended.
Pay attention to your inner dialogue: phrases like “I’m ugly” can be silently destructive. Instead, use speech to liberate.
Share your personal Exodus—your journey from constriction to expansion—and let your words become vessels of truth, healing, and freedom.
Letter of the Month: Hei ה
In mystic Judaism, each month is also associated with a Hebrew letter which influences the month's energy. The world was created through 22 frequencies, the 22 Hebrew letters. Nissan resonates with the letter Hei (ה).
Hei, the fifth in the alphabet (Gematria of 5), represents the quintessence—the purest essence of a substance—reflecting the five senses and the five levels of the soul in Kabbalistic teachings.
With its open shape, it embodies revelation and openness, while its form, resembling a combination of the letters Dalet ד (the door to open) and Yud י (the spiritual divine essence), signifies the integration of physical and spiritual realms.
In Hebrew letters are only consonants;
it's our breath that gives them life and vibration, shaping reality. Hei is the breath of creation. It transforms kivun (כיוון – direction) into kavana (כוונה – intention), infusing our steps with meaning.
When God added the letter Hei to Abram's name, transforming it to Abraham, it signified a new destiny and divine grace, marking his covenant and role as "father of a multitude."
In Hebrew grammar, Hei functions as the definite article "the," indicating specificity and presence.
Practice: Visualize the letter Hei or draw it. Meditate on the breath — simple, present, and alive — as a gateway to renewal. Use your breath in daily actions to bring presence and intention.
Organ of the Month: Right Foot
In mystical Judaism, Nissan is associated with the right foot, symbolizing movement and the initiation of action—echoing the Israelites' first steps out of slavery toward freedom. Nissan is all about movement: the Exodus wasn’t a thought, it was a step.
In reflexology, the right foot connects to masculine energy and the paternal line—outward expression and purposeful action. In Chinese Medicine, the right side channels yang energy—active, dynamic, and forward-moving. In Hindu and Ayurvedic traditions, stepping with the right foot marks auspicious beginnings and abundance.
Practice: When you're uncertain or need to make a decision, move. What we call intuition is actually the wisdom of the body—information not grasped by the intellect but accessed through our divine body and our five senses. Just like water, stagnation breeds confusion, while flow brings clarity. Go for a walk, dance, or simply step forward.
Support your feet through massage or reflexology, and as a playful and mindful ritual—start each day on the right foot, literally, as you get out of bed!
Mazal of the Month: Aries
Nissan’s astrological sign is Aries, the ram—bold, fiery, and full of initiative. It’s the first sign of the zodiac, aligned with beginnings, courage, and the will to break free. In the story of the Exodus, the ram is the very animal that was sacrificed for the first Passover offering—symbolizing the shift from idol worship to divine connection. Aries energy invites us to move forward with faith, take leadership in our lives, and trust our inner fire.
Practice: Give yourself the challenge this month to try something new. Take that first step you've been delaying. Try to notice when you are complaining and change the narrative to take the full responsibility
of your life.
